Chapter 10: With Broccoli

Broccoli looked at Cinnamon and tried to weigh him up.
“What’s a good looking fellow like yourself doing to get into trouble all the time?” he asked.
Cinnamon had never been described as good looking before, so was too surprised to answer.
“Good heavens, when I was your age I was busy having fun,” Broccoli pondered, half happy and half sad to be remembering his teenage years.
Again Cinnamon was silent.
“Of course, you can stay on here at Housesteads, if you want.  Join the patrols, get yourself out and about.  Make new friends.  You don’t have to go back to Great Chesters if you don’t want,” he added.
Cinnamon began to take interest in what Celery was saying.  He had never known there was any other way of life to consider.  Broccoli could see that this was all too much for Cinnamon to take in.
                   “Sleep on it,” he said.
As soon as Cinnamon’s head touched the soft straw, he was asleep.
